EXPORT PROMOTION DRIVE IN NIGERIA: A CASE STUDY OF NIGERIAN EXPORT PROMOTION COUNCIL
ABSTRACT
This study centered on the Role of Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) in Export Promotion in Nigeria. The purpose was to establish the extent to which this organization has succeeded in promoting non oil export in Nigeria. The entire population of forty three (43) respondents of NEPC, Enugu Zonal Office were all investigated. Apart from secondary data obtained from literature review, primary data were obtained using questionnaire. The emerging data were analyzed with the aid of descriptive statistical instruments, namely, tables and percentages. It was observed that there were clear indications that the council has lived up to its expectations as there have been increases in the volume and value of non oil exports which resulted from various activities of the council. However, loopholes militating against the achievement of full objectives of the nation’s non oil export policies were revealed. Also, a number of recommendations were made which include improved services by the council, better funding of export promotion, among others, as that will be the only way to justify the establishment of the NEPC.
