THROMBOCYTES: CAUSES,CONSEQUENCES AND CLINICAL MANAGEMENT
Abstract
Thrombocytes, commonly known as platelets, play a crucial role in hemostasis and the prevention of excessive bleeding. Abnormalities in platelet count or function can lead to various hematological disorders. This paper examines the causes, consequences, and clinical management of thrombocytopenia (low platelet count) and thrombocytosis (elevated platelet count). Thrombocytopenia can result from bone marrow suppression, autoimmune disorders, or infections, leading to increased bleeding risks. Thrombocytosis, often associated with chronic inflammation or malignancies, heightens the risk of thrombotic events. Clinical management strategies include identifying the underlying cause, pharmacological interventions, and, in severe cases, platelet transfusions or surgical treatments. By exploring the etiology and treatment options, this study aims to enhance the understanding of thrombocyte-related disorders, contributing to improved patient outcomes in clinical settings.
