ASSESSMENT OF ROAD INFRASTRUCTURE USING REMOTE SENSING AND GIS METHOD FOR MONITORING CONDITION OF PAVED AND UNPAVED ROADS
Abstract
This study aims to assess road infrastructure by employing remote sensing and Geographic Information System (GIS) methods to monitor the condition of paved and unpaved roads. With the increasing demand for efficient transportation systems and the growing challenges posed by deteriorating road conditions, it has become imperative to implement innovative monitoring techniques. This research utilizes high-resolution satellite imagery and GIS tools to analyze road surface conditions, identifying key parameters such as surface roughness, cracking, and vegetation encroachment. The study focuses on a selected geographical area, integrating remote sensing data with ground-truthing techniques to validate findings. The results reveal significant variations in the condition of paved and unpaved roads, highlighting areas in need of maintenance and rehabilitation. This approach demonstrates the efficacy of remote sensing and GIS in providing timely and accurate data for infrastructure management, thereby contributing to informed decision-making and sustainable development in road maintenance. The findings offer a framework for future applications in road infrastructure assessment and can be adapted to various regions facing similar challenges.
