Abstract

INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of the Study
Innovation has become a central factor in regional economic development, as traditional factors such as land, labor, and capital no longer provide the sole basis for competitive advantage. The concept of Regional Innovation Systems (RIS) highlights the importance of geographically bounded interactions between institutions, firms, universities, research centers, and government bodies in fostering innovation. As the global economy becomes increasingly knowledge-driven, regions that effectively nurture innovation ecosystems are more likely to experience sustainable growth, increased productivity, and competitiveness.
Regional Innovation Systems (RIS) refer to the networks and linkages between key actors that enable the exchange of information, technology, and resources to promote innovation at the regional level. These systems integrate both formal and informal institutions that influence innovation dynamics, including public policies, education, research and development (R&D) activities, and collaborative networks. By leveraging these resources, regions can create conditions conducive to technological advancements, entrepreneurship, and economic transformation.
