THE COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF THE EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM IN THE 19-20 CENTURY, ITS IMPACT ON THE NIGERIAN VALUE SYSTEM IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN BAYELSA STATE
Abstract:
This study undertakes a comprehensive comparative analysis of the educational systems prevalent in the 19th and 20th centuries, aiming to elucidate their profound impact on the Nigerian value system within the context of secondary schools in Bayelsa State. The research investigates the historical evolution of education in Nigeria during these periods, exploring key policy shifts, curriculum developments, and societal influences that have shaped the educational landscape.
By examining primary and secondary sources, the study seeks to uncover how the educational systems of the 19th and 20th centuries have influenced the formation and transformation of the Nigerian value system, particularly in the context of secondary education. Special attention is given to the societal values imparted through the education system and their resonance within Bayelsa State.
The research employs a mixed-methods approach, combining historical analysis, document review, and empirical studies within secondary schools in Bayelsa State. Through surveys, interviews, and observations, the study aims to capture the perspectives of educators, students, and other stakeholders regarding the perceived impact of historical educational practices on contemporary values in the state.
The findings of this research are expected to contribute valuable insights into the linkages between historical educational practices and the prevailing value system in Bayelsa State. Additionally, the study aims to inform educational policymakers and practitioners on potential areas for reform and improvement in the current educational system, with the ultimate goal of fostering a positive impact on the values upheld by the Nigerian society.
